Houses in historic neighborhoods are invariably subject to zoning restrictions. And while these are intended to retain the character of a city, they can make a remodeling project more challenging. This house, on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco, is one of the oldest houses on one of the smallest sites in the city. And although it had been extended and modified over the years, the dining room and kitchen on the first floor were not conducive to entertaining, says architect Michael Tauber.

Michael Tauber Architecture is an award winning, full service architecture firm serving both residential and commercial clients. In over 16 years of experience, Michael has worked on projects ranging from kitchen and bath remodels in Marin County to designing affordable housing projects in Oakland. His commercial work has included projects as complex as water quality laboratories and designing and building consensus on a 20 person architecture firm’s new office space in a 1960′s era former bank. Suffice it to say if you can build consensus with 20 architects on design of their office space, you can build consensus with anything and anyone.

Michael enjoys working with clients to develop designs that work exceptionally well, look great and are budget appropriate. His passion for architecture extends to the construction phases, where close relationships with contractors and personal experience in the field, limit his clients heartburn and construction change orders.

In addition to a growing practice, Michael holds a teaching position in the Architecture school at the California College of the Arts. This allows him, to stay abreast of the latest technological innovations in construction and cost saving strategies.
