She spotlighted a glowing testimonial from Rachel Walls of the Golden Gate Company:

“Betty has been instrumental about helping me to create growth and then plan for growth. She’s taught me how to hire the right people and to manage them so that the Golden Gate Company maintains the level of quality its been known for. She’s been a huge part of turning my company from a sole proprietorship into an actual company! Thanks to Betty, the Golden Gate Company is on target to do a million dollars worth of business by the end of next year.”

Friends:

Thanks for your attention and your comments at my presentation last week. (Not to mention your singing When I’m 64!)

I was asked to provide information on how to refer to me, and I have put together the following list of things to listen for and a suggestion of what you might say to open the subject of coaching. I will greatly appreciate any help you can give me.THANK YOU in advance.

Who & How to refer to Betty Burr

Listen for someone saying:

Coaching for Career Changing, 50+ Career Exploration or “retirement”

– I’m thinking of changing my job.
– I don’t know what I want to do, but I know it isn’t this!
– I’m concerned about layoffs in my organization.
– I really want to do something else.
– I have this important job interview coming up and I don’t want to blow it!
– I’m unhappy in my job but have to stay until retirement. (Planning ahead provides relief from unhappiness.)
– I’m going to retire in the next 5 years.
– I’ve retired and have been playing golf for the past 6 months and it’s not cutting it any more. I need to find something to do.
– I won’t ever retire, but I would like to have more in the last chapter of my life.
– There’s something I’ve always wanted to do — work or leisure or volunteer.

Coaching for Growing a Small Business (not the financial side)

– I’m tired of working for someone else. Maybe I should start my own business!
– I’m already in business but that I want to move to the next level of success.
– I’ve just started my business and I don’t really have a plan for what to do to grow it and marketing takes all my time!.
– I admit that I would like more business or that business is down.
– I’m having a problem communicating with my (boss, co-workers, employees.)
– I’m the boss, so there’s no one else to bounce ideas off.
– If it weren’t for managing people, I’d like my job.

Coaching for Planning Life/work Balance

– I’ve just inherited some money and may take some time off.
– I’ll soon sell my house and move to another area.
– I’m so busy at work I can’t find time for the rest of my life!

What to say: (This is a good general approach to most situations.)

It sounds as if you might benefit from some (career/retirement/business building) planning. I’ve found that when I’m planning for just myself, I often let things slide and they don’t get done. Have you experienced that too? Many people have found it helpful to hire a consultant (coach) to help them plan and help them stay on track. If you’d be interested, I know someone who works with people on their (career change/retirement/lifestyle planning/ business development) plans. May I have her give you a call? (You can check her out on the web at www.transitionsteps.com)
